Softball and Ice Cream

One thing interesting I remember about the softball games I played as a kid. While playing each team called the other all sorts of names and stuff. It was competitive of course. teams were ranked and the ranks posted. After each game the people that organized it would take everyone out for ice cream; but only after each team formed a line and walked pass every single member of the other team, shook hands and said “good game”. If one single person – from either team refuse to do this, no one on either side would get ice cream.

This situation made all the difference in the world. It forced people (kids) on two teams who had just been competing, and a now was divided into a group of “winners” and “losers” to (grudgingly) shake hands with everyone on the other side in order to get a double scoop of mint chocolate chip.
